After credit checks and address validation, you get an order summary with estimated activation. For FTTP first installs, survey appointments may precede a second pull visit. Virgin may ship quick self-install kits if coverage already passes the wall box.
Migrations and synchronised downtime
Openreach migrations aim for short cutovers—old and new should not bill duplicate line rental for long. Document serial numbers of loaned equipment you must return; missed returns generate invoices.
Billing crossover
Expect final bills with pro-rata refunds or outstanding charges. Direct debits may run once more if cancellations lag—request clarifications with CS reference IDs.
If something stalls

IPv6, port forwards, and smart home reconfiguration
If you used dynamic DNS or port forwarding for CCTV, expect new WAN addresses—schedule firewall rule updates. Smart hubs may need factory resets if SSIDs or VLANs change materially.
